World renowned for his unique sound and top tier production, S.P.Y has spent years crafting his unrivalled style and making it his own. He returns to his home label DARKMTTR with heavy hitting release ‘Night Train’, a high energy, modern twist on the classic S.P.Y sound. S.P.Y’s sound is evolving and ‘Night Train’ is a showcase of the new flavour and direction that his music is heading in. While developing his creative vision for DARKMTTR, S.P.Y was heavily influenced by other genres of music and has added all of these to the melting pot that is his new sound for the label.

The release kicks off with crowd favourite and title track ‘Night Train’, originally written while S.P.Y was travelling. The dark night out of the window and the rush of the train speeding through tunnels inspired the energy that runs through the track. With influences from techno, garage, dubstep and trance, S.P.Y has created a detailed, multi-layered sound with this track. A high energy synth wave intro steadily builds to a head shaking, feet stomping drop. Using drums that encapsulate the classic drum and bass sound, the forceful, jump up inspired bassline drops heavy on the track and is overlaid with latin percussion and mechanical sounding, grinding, stepper breaks. 

Following on from ‘Night Train’, ‘Cherry Bomb’ maintains a similar sound palette while bringing an angry, aggressive twist. A wickedly obscure track, ‘Cherry Bomb’ reflects the depth and darkness of the classic S.P.Y sound, while carrying through modern elements of today’s club sound. S.P.Y has been tinkering with this track for years and it is now ready for release. Tech step influences are interwoven with a Bad Company inspired reese sound, dropping into a dark, heavy bassline. This is definitely a track to play loud on a big sound system for full effect.

‘Night Train / Cherry Bomb’ is a standout release for S.P.Y, whose reputation for showcasing the darker, moody side of drum and bass is well regarded in the scene.
